Inspiration for a greener tanning industry from the Arzignano tanning district.

GreenLIFE, research activities at forced march

Written by

The last steering committee meeting that was held in the last weeks at the Mastrotto Group premises has seen important updates on research activities. From the starting of the LCA method for the assessment of the new liming processes impact by Acque del Chiampo, to the verification up to the tannery stage of the oxidative liming studied by Conceria Dani, which reported a total reduction of sulphides and significant reductions in sulphur, making the whole tanning process less impact. News on the oxidative liming combined with the enzymatic have been reported in the assessment made by Ikem. Moreover, important indications have come from the activity of Ilsa that highlights the potential of the hair as a component in fertilizers; field-testing in the coming months will provide important feedback. At the end of the meeting, the Mastrotto Group made an extremely interesting presentation about the analysis methodology and systemic interpretation of the experimental activities, in terms of product quality and environmental impact. It has been a time to share the “institutional” signal by Paolo Gurisatti, president of the Distretto Vicentino della Concia, who highlighted the opportunity to open new lines of research and development in biotechnology with the aim of giving an increasingly systemic character to the greenLIFE project activities and its future.
